Description

York Research Impact Forum: An Introduction to Impact

The York Research Impact Forum aims to bring together researchers from across the University to share best practice and discuss issues and problems in aspects of their knowledge exchange or impact work.

The Forum is open to all research-active staff at the University, and also to PhD students and administrative staff who support impact. All sessions are intended to be cross-disciplinary.

This term’s impact forum is aimed especially at early-career researchers, and those new to impact (although all are welcome). The session will cover what we mean by Research Impact, how it relates to engagement and Knowledge Exchange activities, and how it is supported at the University of York.

The session will include presentations from academics in different faculties who have successfully achieved non-academic impact from their research projects –

  • Lawrence McNamara: Lawrence is a Reader in the Law School at York and also the school's impact lead. From 2013-2017 he was deputy Director at an NGO, the Bingham Centre for the Rule of LAw, where he retains a role as Senior Research Fellow.
  • Kevin Killen: Kevin is a Professor of Renaissance Literature in the Department of English and Related Literature. He is also the Impact Lead for his department, supporting and nurturing the impact of research among his colleagues.
  • Sarah Blower: Sarah is a Research Fellow in Health Sciences. Her research focuses on the design, implementation and evaluation of interventions for children and families. From 2004-2013 she was a researcher at a registered charity called the Dartington Social Research Unit.
